What is this LiveMath Viewer?

LiveMath Viewer is a main feature of this "Interactive Mathematics" website.

With LiveMath, you can try different values in graphs, equations, matrices, calculus etc and when you do, everything updates immediately. Think of it like a glorified mathematical spreadsheet program, but it can do lots more.

It's great for exploring maths and understanding what all the mathematics means.

How do you Download and Install LiveMath Viewer?

This video shows you the steps for downloading and installing LiveMath viewer. Towards the end you can see how to check whether the Viewer is working correctly.

This is how it looks in my configuration of Firefox. The download and install works in a similar way in most browsers and operating systems.

LiveMath Viewer Won't Open the File?

In MS Windows, LiveMath Viewer sometimes will not cooperate and open the THP file when you click on it. You might get something like the following. Click "Browse" and look in your "Program files" directory for the LiveMath folder.

It should look like this. Choose LiveMath_viewer.exe.

Choose "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" and then click OK when the next screen opens:

Now the Livemath THP files should open OK each time.

How do you use LiveMath Viewer?

Once you have downloaded and installed LiveMath Viewer, click on the small "Help" button that you will see at the top of the LiveMath Viewer screen. It includes a Help system which explains how to input values into LiveMath equations.

What Happened to LiveMath Plugin?

I gave up on the LiveMath browser plugin. There were too many problems with the browser crashing (especially in Firefox - the browser would close down each time you you navigated off a page containing an embedded LiveMath document.) It's a shame because the plugin was nice and convenient.

LiveMath Viewer is more stable than the plugin.

Why is LiveMath Viewer free?

LiveMath Viewer is a free download from the LiveMath website. They make their money from selling the Livemath Maker editing software to teachers.

LiveMath Viewer is a normal download and install. (You have given them your email address first. They never spam you.)

LiveMath Viewer is actually a restricted version of the editing software. It doesn't allow you to save any of your changes. If you want to save, you have to pay.
