LiveMath Example

In LiveMath, what we do is draw the graph of the function and then use "Find Graph Root" (not available for you to play with in the Web version here). LiveMath is using Newton's Method to solve this equation.

So you can see what is happening, zoom in on the root. Use the knife command. You click on the knife and then DRAG over the area of interest in the graph.

The root, of course, is the x-intercept for the graph (i.e. where y = 0). We keep zooming until we reach the desired accuracy.
