Friday Math Movie - Weapons of Math Instruction

By Murray Bourne, 26 Oct 2007

This week's math movie is from the electronic/rap group Mathematicians. The title of the track is Weapons of Math Instruction,

... a political commentary a la nerdy indie hiphop. A revolutionary time travel extravaganza from present day D.C. into the post apocalyptic year 2012. Revolution is now.

To give you an idea of the nature of the piece, it is tagged in YouTube as:

mathematicians weapons of math instruction bush cheney anti-war america iraq music video hiphop rap nerd punk protest

It sorta fizzles at the end, but is interesting anyway.

Enjoy:

  1. Use simple calculator-like input in the following format (surround your math in backticks, or qq on tablet or phone):
    `a^2 = sqrt(b^2 + c^2)`
(See more on ASCIIMath syntax); or
  2. Use simple LaTeX in the following format. Surround your math with \( and \).
    \( \int g dx = \sqrt{\frac{a}{b}} \)
    (This is standard simple LaTeX.)

NOTE: You can mix both types of math entry in your comment.
