Girls are evil…?

By Murray Bourne, 09 Sep 2007

Sorry, girls. This "proof that girls are evil" is here purely for its mathematical value.

Honest.

Please don't shoot me - I'm only the messenger.

Actually, this might be a fun way to get students thinking more about math notation and its meaning.

Poetry involving Greek symbols, anyone?

    coool...its so true

  2. Li-sa says:

Maybe I'm really a bit literary: money may also refer to 'fame' or 'success' or whatever we desire.

  3. Li-sa says:

I would like to challenge this "proof":
    1. Girls require time and money = "Girls = Time * Money"?
If I require water, is "I = water" true?
    2. "time is money"?
If you have 10 years to kill, could you buy anything that costs $3652?
    3. "money is the root of all evil"?
Add "For the love of" before "money" and it becomes true. "For the love of money is the root of all evil." (KJV 1 Timothy 6:10a) And it is proven that the Bible is always true.

  4. Li-sa says:

Besides, "root" may mean cube root, 4th-power root, etc. In the statement "money is the root of all evil", it is a metaphor, meaning that all evil is based on ^money^ - not always true; all evil is based on the *love of money* - true.

  5. Nilesh says:

The Money can also be replaced by pleasure .

  6. Renu says:

We may also require peace and friends everywhere.
    So, Girls=peace*friends everywhere=HEAVEN

To enter math, you can can either:

  1. Use simple calculator-like input in the following format (surround your math in backticks, or qq on tablet or phone):
    `a^2 = sqrt(b^2 + c^2)`
(See more on ASCIIMath syntax); or
  2. Use simple LaTeX in the following format. Surround your math with \( and \).
    \( \int g dx = \sqrt{\frac{a}{b}} \)
    (This is standard simple LaTeX.)

NOTE: You can mix both types of math entry in your comment.
