When it is too dangerous or expensive to allow learners to experience real settings, simulations are the answer. They don't have to be computer-based simulations - it can be achieved by well-designed role-play.<\/p>\n<p>On a related note, it can be argued that demonstrating \"good practice\" is a waste of time. We learn a lot more from mistakes - our own and others'.<\/p>\n<p>What is missing from a lot of institutional learning is any sense of authenticity and learning from (scaffolded) failure.
