{"id":606,"date":"2007-04-13T06:21:09","date_gmt":"2007-04-13T06:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intmath.com\/blog\/?p=606"},"modified":"2014-11-18T11:38:55","modified_gmt":"2014-11-18T03:38:55","slug":"violence-in-schools-real-life-statistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intmath.com\/blog\/mathematics\/violence-in-schools-real-life-statistics-606","title":{"rendered":"Violence in schools - real life statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is an interesting summary of crime in US schools at <a href=\"http:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/pubsearch\/pubsinfo.asp?pubid=2007003\">Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2006<\/a>, by the National Center for Education Statistics of the USA.<\/p>\n<p>Among the interesting statistics in the report: <\/p>\n<h2>Fighting<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In 2005, some 36 percent of students in grades 9-12 reported being in a fight anywhere, and 14 percent said they had been in a fight on school property. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Weapons<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Students were asked if they had carried a weapon such as a gun, knife, or club in the past 30 days (referred to as \"anywhere\" in this report) or had carried one of these weapons on school property in the past 30 days. In 2005, some 19 percent of students in grades 9-12 reported they had carried a weapon anywhere, and about 6 percent reported they had carried a weapon on school property. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Alcohol<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Students in grades 9-12 were asked whether they had consumed alcohol at all in the past 30 days (referred to as \"anywhere\" in this report) and if they had consumed alcohol on school property.
