{"id":548,"date":"2007-02-13T13:33:40","date_gmt":"2007-02-13T13:33:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intmath.com\/blog\/?p=548"},"modified":"2014-11-18T20:18:46","modified_gmt":"2014-11-18T12:18:46","slug":"gaisma-real-life-sine-graphs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intmath.com\/blog\/mathematics\/gaisma-real-life-sine-graphs-548","title":{"rendered":"Gaisma - real-life sine graphs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gaisma.com\/en\">Gaisma<\/a> has <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\"Sunrise, sunset, dawn and dusk times around the World!\". <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There is a graph for each city and they are (almost) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intmath.com\/trigonometric-graphs\/trigo-graph-intro.php\">sine curves<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The yellow portion represents daylight, the gray represents night and the blue and red represent dawn and dusk. The horizontal scale is months in the year and the vertical scale is the hour of the day.<\/p>\n<p>This is the one for Tokyo (northern hemisphere):<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"image543\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2007\/02\/daylight.gif\" alt=\"Daylight\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Capetown, South Africa, is in the southern hemisphere, so the graphs have the opposite shape (in a vertical sense).<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"image544\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2007\/02\/capetown.gif\" alt=\"Capetown\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Many places use daylight saving, and so there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intmath.com\/functions-and-graphs\/8-split-functions.php\">discontinuity<\/a> in the graph.
