{"id":430,"date":"2006-10-17T04:18:54","date_gmt":"2006-10-17T04:18:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intmath.com\/blog\/?p=430"},"modified":"2014-06-13T16:08:02","modified_gmt":"2014-06-13T08:08:02","slug":"more-crazy-non-standard-standards-power-plugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intmath.com\/blog\/mathematics\/more-crazy-non-standard-standards-power-plugs-430","title":{"rendered":"More crazy non-standard standards - power plugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I'm off to Bali this afternoon and I wanted to remind myself of the kind of power plugs they use.<\/p>\n<p>Why do we have so many incompatible power plugs?<\/p>\n<p>This site lists different plugs for different companies: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dbicorporation.com\/internat\/intpower.htm\">International Power Plugs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I see that the plug we use in Singapore is the same one that is used in the UK, UAE, Hong Kong, Iraq and Malaysia. Hmmm - the British Empire at work, wot?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" id=\"image429\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2006\/10\/ad_a7xw.jpg\" width=\"206\" height=\"287\" alt=\"British electrical plug\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So why are we in this silly situation where countries insist on using their own weights and measures (even though they are officially \"metric\" countries), not driving on the same side of the road and not being able to share TV or mobile phone specifications?<\/p>\n<p>I have to agree it makes money for lots of people, but surely it would be better to make more money because of the efficiencies gained from having common standards?<\/p>\n<p class=\"alt\">See the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intmath.com\/blog\/mathematics\/more-crazy-non-standard-standards-power-plugs-430#comments\" id=\"comms\">1 Comment<\/a> below.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why do we have so many incompatible power plugs?
