And now the PenTop computer

[18 Nov 2005]

The Fly PenTop computer has a lot of educational potential. This review from the Gadsden Times points out some very interesting mathematics learning possibilities. In particular, the Fly is able to give instant feedback while the student is solving a problem.

Some thoughts:

  • It appears to be very motivating – but at US$100, it’s not exactly cheap.
  • I very rarely use a pen these days. Is the pen dead as an input concept? Will this pentop revive the pen (amongst the tech-savvy, I mean)?
  • It appears that sales of educational software continue to plummet. Is this kind of device (or PDA or palmtop) the future of educational technology?
