And now the PenTop computer

By Murray Bourne, 18 Nov 2005

The Fly PenTop computer has a lot of educational potential. A review from the Gadsden Times pointed out some very interesting mathematics learning possibilities. In particular, the Fly is able to give instant feedback while the student is solving a problem.

Some thoughts:

  • It appears to be very motivating – but at US$100, it’s not exactly cheap.
  • I very rarely use a pen these days. Is the pen dead as an input concept? Will this pentop revive the pen (amongst the tech-savvy, I mean)?
  • It appears that sales of educational software continue to plummet. Is this kind of device (or PDA or palmtop) the future of educational technology?
